In today’s post, mixing drinks is our topic of discussion. While making cocktails, the most important part is blending the ingredients and personalising your cocktails just the way you like it. Adding your own personal touches, secret ways of shaking, only makes bartending/cocktail mixing much more fun. Plus, it’s a great activity to spend time with your friends and loved ones.
Making cocktails yourself has ample benefits. Not only is it enjoyable, but you can make your own cocktails that taste just as good as a restaurant cocktails at just a fraction of the price. Cocktails aren’t hard to make at all, especially since the majority of it is mixing different drinks in a cocktail mixer.
Cocktail ingredients can be played around with, especially the condiments and syrups that mix with the alcohol. But, please note – avoid mixing alcohol. It can be hazardous and bad for health.
A cocktail and mixed drink is very different. A mixed drink are almost always nly two ingredients poured over ice, like rum and coke. But a cocktail takes more effort and tastes much better than a simple mixed drink.
Key Ingredients (Types of Alcohol)
- Brandy – Distilled from fruits, most commonly grapes and the name derives from
brandewijn , the Dutch word meaning ‘burnt wine.’ - Gin – Often distilled from grains, gin includes the flavourings of botanicals. Juniper is considered the trademark flavour.
- Rum – Made by distilling sugar or molasses, rum is a sweeter liquor and is produced throughout the world.
- Tequila – Strictly a product of Mexico, tequila is distilled from the agave plant and has a distinct earthy flavour.
- Vodka – The most used liquor, vodka can be distilled from any number of ingredients though grains and potato are most common.
- Whiskey – Whiskey is a complex category with a variety of styles though most begin with a distillate of grains. Whiskies are almost always aged unless it’s moonshine.
