Most people can’t travel a few kilometres without money. But not this duo. Jyoti Kumari and her dad had no money, no transport, and their village was halfway across India. He was an out-of-work migrant laborer, was injured and could barely walk. This Migrant Saves Injured Father, and nurses him back to health.
They then hopped on a bike. After that, she was on a mission to take her father home. Most people haven’t reached home safely, especially during these times. But Jyoti made it a priority. They crossed all boundaries, even states! More than 1,100 Kms away – she kept updating her mother. From borrowed cell phones!
Several migrant workers who face monetary problems – couldn’t even go home. After the lockdown was imposed on March 25, they all tried to travel home. Many didn’t make it back. Except these two! Above all – on a bike. Not even a motorcycle, a bicycle!
The New York Times refers to Jyoti as ‘Jyoti the Lionhearted‘. She later even got a call from the Cycling Federation of India. Onkar Singh (federation chairman) invited her to New Delhi for a tryout with the national team.
