Ever watched a movie so good, it could easily pass off as a story in real life? Movies based on real life stories – in this article are some faascinating stories that you never know happened in real time. This happens so often, you’d be surprised. Good movies often don’t have a tell – sometimes it’s so unbelievably good and unrealistic. We get lost in the plot and story of it all. The gripping instances, heart wrenching scenes and the grandeur of the set; all so perfect that we may never believe a movie is a story adapted from real life instance.
Some movies based on real life stories are often some we have no idea about – maybe a little snippet at the end of the film telling us it’s “based on a true story”. For binge watchers like myself; watching a movie makes the experience better once we know it’s real. It gives us… hope? (and definitely increased heart rate whilst watching a movie)
What better time than now, to sit back, relax and watch these movies based on real stories?
Erin Brockovich
Erin Brockovich played by Julia Roberts in a 2000 film is a true story about Erin Brockovich – an American legal clerk, consumer advocate, and environmental activist, who, despite her lack of education in the law, was instrumental in building a case against the Pacific Gas and Electric Company of California in 1993. Sounds a bit boring, but once you watch the movie with Erin battling a legal case with people dying of cancer – especially with 3 kids? Hats off to that woman!
Lion
Lion – a 2016 film that happens to be one of my favorites, and also too good to be true? At five years old, Saroo Brierley accidentally got on a train that landed him 930 miles from his home in India. His mother frantically searched for him, but he was nowhere to be found. He was taken in by police, and then adopted by a couple in Australia. Twenty-five years later, he set out to find the family he once had, with the help of google maps. This movie gives me chills – each time.
The Pursuit of Happyness
This movie based on a real story – 2006 is about a single father – Chris Gardner (Will Smith). andhe and his young son (Jaden Christopher Syre Smith) who get evicted from their home and find themselves alone with no place to go. Even though Chris eventually lands a job as an intern at a prestigious brokerage firm, the position pays no money. Chris struggles to create a life for his son and himself – from living in shelters to spending nights in public bathrooms.
An American Crime
Released in 2007, this movie is a real life story of the torture and murder of 2 young girls. Gertrude Baniszewski (Catherine Keener), plays a divorced mother of several children, agrees to take care of two girls, Sylvia (Ellen Page) and Jennie (Hayley McFarland), while their parents travel with a carnival. Though her eldest daughter is the real troublemaker, Gertrude vents all her bitterness and frustration on innocent Sylvia. Gertrude imprisons the girl in the basement and tortures her, eventually encouraging her children to follow her.
Miracles From Heaven
Miracles from Heaven is a 2016 American Christian drama film with Jennifer Garner. It is based on Miracles from Heaven by Christy Beam, which recounts the true story of her young daughter who had a near-death experience and was later cured of an incurable disease. This movie is a good one to watch when the whole world is hoping for a miracle. Sweet, heart warming and almost enchanting, this is one of the few Movies based on Real Stories we all need to watch from time to time.
