Bradford is putting the spotlight on the achievements of young artists with dreams of success. On the first day of Black History Month, a large crowd gathered at the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library to celebrate the grand opening of the Canvas for Change: Black Youth Art Showcase. This collective exhibition showcased 20 remarkable artworks created by nine talented youngsters from Simcoe County, aged 13 to 18, who took part in the Canvas for Change program. Presented by Making Change, this program aimed to empower individuals with personal Black experiences, engaging them in three educational workshops where they were taught how to conceptualize, express, and visually illustrate ideas unique to their stories and perspectives. The guidance of esteemed Toronto artist Ashante Blackwood ensured that these participants received valuable mentorship throughout their artistic journey.
